Crude Oil Prices Surge to $115/Barrel: Driven by intensifying geopolitical tensions and regional conflicts in West Asia, the Indian basket of crude oil reached a high of $115 per barrel in early 2026. Given India's reliance on imports for nearly 85% of its crude needs, this spike puts significant pressure on fiscal balances and domestic inflation. 

India-UAE Bilateral Maritime Agreement: During a strategic visit to the UAE, a significant maritime agreement was signed between both nations. Under the Sagarmala initiative, a state-of-the-art ship-repair cluster is proposed to be established at Vadinar, Gujarat, transforming India into a prominent global maritime services hub. 

Withholding Tax Cut to Boost Overseas Capital: The government is implementing adjustments to the Withholding Tax mechanism to make Indian debt assets more alluring to international investors. By lowering the tax rate on post-tax returns, overseas capital can enter Indian debt markets with lower entry barriers.

SBI Research Projects Real GDP Growth at 6.6%: In its latest macroeconomic report, SBI Research forecasted India's real GDP growth for the upcoming fiscal year (FY27) to stabilize at 6.6%, citing external headwinds and energy market volatility as moderating factors.

Long-Term Energy Deals for UAE LPG Supply: To insulate domestic households from unstable global distribution links, India finalized extended long-term supply agreements with the UAE, which remains the single largest exporter of Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) to the Indian domestic market.
