Draft National Food Security (Amendment) Bill, 2026 Released: The Department of Food and Public Distribution unveiled a major structural draft to reform the National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013. The amendment proposes replacing the existing household-based foodgrain allocation under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) (which currently stands at 35 kg per household) with a fixed per-person entitlement of 7 kg per month, subject to a maximum cap of 35 kg per household.  

Supreme Court Directs States to Build Uniform Trauma Care Networks: Reviewing road safety data submitted by 34 states and Union Territories, the Supreme Court revealed a critical gap in India's post-crash response system, noting that not a single state has fully deployed all five core life-saving measures. The court directed states to rapidly set up uniform, public-facing GPS ambulance tracking dashboards to optimize medical intervention during the critical Golden Hour.  

Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Annual Report Highlights Changing Drug Profile: The Union Home Minister released the NCB Annual Report, detailing shifting international trafficking patterns. Following the Taliban's strict cultivation ban cutting Afghan supplies, Myanmar has emerged as the primary source of illicit opium, showing a 56% surge in poppy cultivation. The report flagged India's Manipur and Champhai (Mizoram) land corridors as highly vulnerable transit points.  

RBI Mandates Immediate Fraud Risk Reporting for Digital Banking: Operating under the revised 2026 Digital Payment Master Directions, the Reserve Bank of India directed all Scheduled Commercial Banks to instantly log digital banking frauds exceeding ₹1 lakh into the Central Fraud Registry. The measure is designed to tighten data security networks and fast-track asset tracing.  

Gujarat’s Dolphin Population Crosses 680: A comprehensive marine wildlife census conducted by the state's forest department alongside coastal ecological research agencies revealed that Gujarat's dolphin population has crossed 680. The milestone highlights the positive environmental impact of structural coastal conservation and anti-pollution marine laws along the Arabian Sea.  

NHPC and UPPCL Sign Historic 40-Year Hydroelectric PPA: Boosting North India's clean energy grid, the state-run National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) finalized a long-term 40-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL). The contract secures an uninterrupted green energy supply baseline to support industrial expansion in UP.  

CBSE Formally Relaxes Three-Language Formula Rules: Providing significant academic relief, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) issued a clarification allowing students in Classes 7, 8, and 9 to continue learning foreign languages under the localized three-language policy. This exception permits them to finish their foreign language courses smoothly until they graduate Class 10.
